The 9th annual Hike the Lafitte Corridor will start at Louis Armstrong Park’s Congo Square at 10 AM and is FREE and open to the public, with a suggested donation to help us to continue this annual event. Bike Easy will be offering free bike valet as well as a bicycle safety workshop at 9 AM for those who pre-register. The Hike will include a lunch stop at the Bayou St. John with Parkway po-boys and will end at Bud’s Broiler on City Park Avenue.

Please sign up in advance and be sure to get to Congo Square by 9:30 AM to register that day.

The Steering Advisory Committee is composed of nine members, appointed as follows:
- Office of Mayor: one appointee
- Councilmembers at Large: one appointee each
- Council Districts A, B and C: one appointee each
- Friends of Lafitte Corridor: three appointees

The term of appointment is for one year. Appointees must fill out and submit a standard questionnaire that documents the absence of any conflict of interest, and familiarity with the City Code of Ethics. Appointments are reviewed by the Council Government Affairs Committee and approved by vote of the Council. The Committee is charged with meeting at least quarterly. Meetings will be held during normal business hours-traditionally at 9am on the second Friday of the month, and follow standards for public meetings. Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center has offered a venue for LGSAC meetings in the recent past. Interested parties are encouraged to submit their names, a statement of interest, and brief biographical sketch to Friends of Lafitte Corridor at info@folc-nola.org.

FOLC is also now accepting nominations for our Board of Directors. FOLC’s Board can consist of up to twenty-one directors that can hold office for three-year terms with no consecutive terms. You can see the current board here . There are currently several positions available. We are seeking nominees for board members with the following qualities:
  • Interest in developing the Lafitte Corridor as an urban trail with multiple activity uses;
  • Willingness to promote FOLC at meetings, events, and other venues;
  • Willingness to assist or lead fundraising efforts to support FOLC operations;
  • Ability to attend monthly FOLC meetings (missing three consecutive meetings results in automatic dismissal).

If you or someone you know possess these qualities, please feel free to nominate yourself or another person to be included on the ballot for Board elections. Send all submissions to: info@folc-nola.org.

The 2013 FOLC Board of Directors nominees are voted on by the attending membership at our next monthly meeting to be held on Thursday, January 24th at 6:30PM at Sojourner Truth Neighborhood Center, 2200 Lafitte Street.
